Some Questions

Some questions that I would like answered:

Is Mark Noll's departure of Wheaton College for Notre Dame symptomatic of general Christian brain drain in higher ed? Is the typical Christian college able to retain quality professors? (Answer must be in the form of a sentence.)

Is my newly-developed tendonitis because of my addiction to spider solitaire/texttwist? Is this a punishment from God for occasionally engaging in such pursuits during work?

Will Barry Bonds tell the truth before he breaks Babe Ruth's record?

Will Moussaoui be sentenced to death? If so, is this because humans long for vengeance, a scapegoat, anything for some closure?

Why didn't someone buy me tickets to these concerts?

Why do people gravitate toward the same seats in a classroom or meeting room for weeks and months at a time, yet get so bored during said meetings that people are text messaging one another, doing whatever it is one does with a blackberry, checking e-mails, etc.?

too many questions one answer:
There are two options: a) yes christian colleges cannot retain intelligent faculty b) Noll's leaving is more similar to the calvin exodus of the eighties which saw mouw, plantinga, and wolterstorff going to higher end shcools out of a sense of responsbility to not keep their christian learning in the neo-calvinist ghetto. And Noll is a higher ed. missionary

or he wanted more money/prestige

I know Notre Dame is christian (the name is a dead give away). but, considering the fact that it is a large university it has a different character than calvin in terms of the ability to spread a message to large numbers of students.

wowzers, i leave for a long weekend and suddenly there are comments. awesome.

1. i think anonymous is ms. stice and she should unveil herself and log in with her blogspot id.

2. great comments and matt, i think my opinion falls somewhere in between your first options (a and b). since christian colleges can't offer the resources and the diverse student body that many good professors might desire, they lose out, which is sad, especially for the few christian college students who would benefit from those faculty. but maybe they should have gone to notre dame...but i would lean more toward resources and a more challenging audience than the idea of noll being a missionary. not that i know him personally, it's just my hunch.
